Utah County, September 2002 — R. Neal Westwood, co-founder of Alpine Business Brokers, has received the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver award for distinguished service to youth. The highest Scouting award given at the council level, the Silver Beaver recognizes Neal’s more than 20 years of continuous volunteer service in the Boy Scout program.

“This award is an unexpected honor,” Westwood commented, “and was made possible only because of strong leaders who took time with me during my youth and because of a loving, supporting wife and family.” Neal attributes his success in life to the strong principles he was taught in the Scouting program and believes that serving youth is one of the greatest ways to repay those who served him, while insuring that future generations carry on the strong traditions and values of the past.

Westwood has served in numerous council, district and local Scouting positions including Varsity roundtable chairman, Varsity roundtable commissioner, council and district On-Target chairman, council All-Star training chairman, Varsity coach (six years), Exploring advisor (four years), Scoutmaster (four years), Cubmaster, unit commissioner, ELI staff member, and committee chairman.

As an adult leader, Neal has completed both Varsity Scout Woodbadge and Explorer Leadership Institute (ELI) advanced leader training. Neal was instrumental in developing and canonizing the Varsity All-Star program, an advanced youth leadership training program for Varsity Scouts, serving seven times on staff including twice as course director and twice as course advisor. Neal earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1977 while a Boy Scout in Troop 15 of Highland, Utah.
