Gary I. Tobian, MBA, CBI, M&AMI
joins Alpine as a proven executive with a track record for creating growth and increasing profitability. Mr. Tobian started his sales career at 3M Company where he attained 10 national recognition awards for sales achievement. During eight years at 3M, he was ranked as one of the top sales representatives in his division and was the all time top dollar producer in the teleterminal product line at 3M. After an eight-year career with the 3M Company, Mr. Tobian became Vice President of Moniterm Corporation, a high-resolution video imaging company, with responsibilities as General Manager over its Wasatch High Voltage subsidiary. He later became the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Utah Medical Products, Inc., an OB/GYN and critical care medical device company, and was the architect for the company’s dramatic increase in profitability. Mr. Tobian was also General Manager of Powder River, Inc., a steel fabrication company. After several years as an executive in a software technology company, Mr. Tobian co-founded Alpine Business Brokers. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law and Society from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Mr. Tobian has received the Certified Business Intermediary designation from the International Business Brokers Association, of which he is a member. He has also received the Merger and Acquisition Master Intermediary designation from the M&A Source, of which he is also a member. He is the Principal Real Estate Broker for Alpine Business Brokers.
R. Neal Westwood, CBI, M&AMI
comes to Alpine with a strong background in customer relationship, technical management, and small business ownership. He has participated in a number of start-up companies, including 4 of his own, and has been through the acquisition process from both sides of the fence many times. For 13 years, Mr. Westwood was President and Chief Software Engineer at Omicron Genetics, Inc., an innovative and cutting edge software development and service company, which he founded. He also brings personal instructional experience to Alpine from developing and delivering technology courses at Utah Valley State College. Mr. Westwood joined Pinnacle Software Corporation at its founding. He has the unique ability to communicate and understand customer needs. At various times during his 9 years, Mr. Westwood was responsible for the company’s Business Development efforts, prospecting and closing OEM partnerships, training and working with the company’s sales teams, closing major accounts and training both inside and outside sales representatives. Mr. Westwood also created the Professional Services Division. Mr. Westwood was personally responsible for the establishment and growth of the company’s Customer Service, Technical Services and Professional Services groups, including the training and mentoring of new sales representatives. He was responsible for conducting due diligence and analysis of many potential acquisitions. Mr. Westwood has started, managed and sold several Utah businesses. His energy and outgoing nature allows him to easily approach customers in any industry and quickly understand their needs and match solutions that work. Mr. Westwood has received the Certified Business Intermediary designation from the International Business Brokers Association, of which he is a member. Mr. Westwood also holds the Merger and Acquisition Master Intermediary designation from the M&A Source of which he is also a member. James R. Nelson, CBI
James R. Nelson, CBI joins Alpine with twenty years experience in sales, marketing and management. Mr. Nelson started his sales career at 3M Company and was the recipient of fourteen national sales awards for distinguished sales achievement. During his seventeen years with 3M, he managed 3M’s Document Systems Divisions business in the Wilshire corridor region in Southern California and then the Packaging Systems Division business and channel partners for thirteen years in the Western Rockies while based in Park City, Utah. His prior experience in the Environmental and Geotechnical industries, where he contributed to numerous Environmental Impact Reports, broadens his scope and business understanding. Mr. Nelson graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Environmental Studies. Mr. Nelson is a member of the International Business Brokers Association and has earned the prestigious Certified Business Intermediary designation and is a licensed real estate agent with Alpine Business Brokers. Scott H. Simons, MBA, CBI, M&AMI
joins Alpine with several years of sales and management experience. He was a top manager and sales executive in the direct sales industry. While at Icon Marketing, Mr. Simons managed several locations throughout the U.S. including Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, Phoenix, and New Jersey. While over the St. Louis office it was recognized as the top office in the country. In addition, Mr. Simons was ranked as one of the top four salespersons nationwide two consecutive years as well as the company’s number one recruiter both years. Mr. Simons has had experience with small businesses ownership and operations. He is a founding member and owner of a specialty trailer manufacturing and Distribution Company as well as a sporting goods importing business. Mr. Simons also has international experience and has lived and worked abroad. Mr. Simons graduated from Utah Valley University with a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business and with a Master of Business Administration degree (emphasis entrepreneuring) from Utah State University. Mr. Simons is a member of the International Business Brokers Association and has earned the prestigious Certified Business Intermediary designation. Mr. Simons also holds the Merger and Acquisition Master Intermediary designation from the M&A Source of which he is also a member and is a licensed real estate agent with Alpine Business Brokers. Mr. Simons reads, writes, and speaks Vietnamese.
Michael Tobian, CBI
has been with Alpine since 2008. In this capacity, he brings extensive expertise in sales and small business ownership. Mr. Tobian has founded and owned several successful Utah businesses including Utah Live Bands (utahlivebands.com), an entertainment company that produces corporate entertainment all over the world for companies such as Microsoft, Mass Mutual, BP Oil, Ebay, Macy’s, Toyota, The Kentucky Derby, The Home Depot and hundreds of others. Utah Live Bands is a 14 time Utah Best of State winner. In addition, Mr Tobian has owed and founded Empire Casino Parties (empirecasinoparties.com) and Dinosaur Events (DinosaurEvents.com).
In addition to his business background, Mr. Tobian has had an extensive music career. He has taught music classes at BYU and UVU, including writing the textbook “Fundamentals of Jazz Improvisation”. He has toured the world as a performing musician, having performed with and along side artists including the Beach Boys, One Republic, FUN, Steve Augeri (former lead singer of Journey), Scotty McCreery and countless others. He is also a musician on the Jazz Hang record label and is a chair board member of the Jazz Collective of Utah.
Mr. Tobian earned his degree in Jazz Studies from Brigham Young University and is a member of the International Business Brokers Association. He has earned the prestigious Certified Business Intermediary designation which has been instrumental in his success in selling many Utah businesses. Jeremy R. Nevens
joins the Alpine team with a strong sales background. He started his sales career while in college in outdoor retail. In addition, Jeremy has worked sales and management positions in animation production, beverage, packaging and real estate industries. His sales experience ranges from launching a new product to increasing sales within a mature market. Jeremy is also a small business owner. He has an online clothing company and fine art business. He has a true love for working with people, building relationships and assisting them in pursuing their goals as business owners. Jeremy graduated from the Laguna College of Art and Design in Southern California, studying fine arts, illustration and 3D animation. On his down time, Jeremy can be found up in the high mountains fly fishing and enjoying the outdoors. Mr. Nevens is a licensed real estate agent with Alpine Business Brokers.
Merrill K. Roberts
joins Alpine with 30 years of small business ownership. He is a Utah native and lifelong resident and was raised by an entrepreneur, public service minded father. He learned to work as a very young boy in his father’s ice manufacturing plant and later skippered a fishing boat in Alaska as a commercial salmon fishermen. Mr. Roberts has owned 4 businesses, including: a seafood processing company, a national distribution company, an archery accessory manufacturing company, and a specialty furniture manufacturing company. He managed sales of his products to national independent dealer networks and designed and developed innovative product lines. As the owner, Mr. Roberts was responsible for all aspects of the operations, from initial company concept to profitable operation. Mr. Roberts studied Manufacturing Technology/ Business Management at Brigham Young University with specialized training in SPC and quality assurance and is a licensed real estate agent with Alpine Business Brokers. Mr. Roberts is also fluent in Spanish.
Kristin C. Elinkowski, CBI
is thrilled to be doing her dream job of helping people sell and buy businesses. She has extensive experience in the Internet Marketing, E-Commerce, and Direct Response industries. She has created and implemented several nationwide advertising campaigns, utilizing pay per click, banner ads, social media, radio and print ads. She is the founder and current owner of an E-commerce website, which she has run for the last 7 years.
In addition to her business experience, she enjoys being involved in her community. She is very passionate about education, and currently serves as Chairman of the Utah State Charter School Board. She previously served as a member of the Utah State Board of Education and as Board President at North Davis Preparatory Academy. She is an Honorary Commander for the Hill Air Force Base 388th fighter wing, where she has enjoyed getting to know military and civic leaders from all over the country. She was Vice-Chair of the Layton City Planning Commission and a Staff Assistant to Congressman James V. Hansen in the US House of Representatives. She has also been a campaign manager for several political campaigns.
She loves traveling, skiing (water and snow), hiking, and living near the mountains. She is an adventure junkie, and spent one winter backpacking through Asia with her family. She graduated with honors from Weber State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science/Business and is a licensed Real Estate Agent with Alpine Business Brokers. Mrs. Elinkowski is a member of the International Business Brokers Association and has earned the prestigious Certified Business Intermediary designation.
Ty D. Longmire
joins Alpine with background in recruiting, team building, sales, sales training, and revenue growth. He’s been working in direct sales and sales management for the past 7 years. In 2016, he was awarded for leading his office to the highest average contract value in the company’s history. During his time as a sales manager, he was personally responsible for recruiting, hiring, and retaining his sales force. After building the sales force, he was responsible for training those new reps who had no prior sales experience. His team generated a 144% sales growth his second year followed by 215% growth. Mr. Longmire has recruited and managed teams all across the country. He joined Alpine in the fall of 2018 and is a licensed Real Estate Agent with Alpine Business Brokers.
